Helping the Monterey County

Filed under: Blog Challenge,E.L.A,Uncategorized — Natalie at 4:52 pm on Thursday, April 26, 2012

Hello people of the world! Today I am doing  Edublog Challenge #6, which is called, “Let’s Work.”  I live in the Monterey County, here in the United States. Places of the Monterey County I would like to help is Salinas. There are a lot of homeless people there. I would know because I go every other week and always see people sitting on the sidewalks in the shopping center holding cardboard signs. The signs say something like this, “Homeless, Hungry, Spare change please.”  It makes me sad to see these depressed faces. Sometimes my mom and I hand these people some change. I was on the web the other day and found these websites that I thought would give you guys some ideas to help your community. The first one I found is called Food Bank for Monterey County. I understand  it says Monterey County, but it can give you ideas. The next one I found is called Meals on Wheels of Salinas. Again, you might not live in Salinas, California, but it can still give you amazing ideas on how to help your community. At the bottom of this post I have a poll for you to take. Have an awesome day and I hope you come back for my next post.

Battle of Salamis

Filed under: History — Natalie at 5:14 pm on Monday, April 16, 2012

Hi fellow bloggers! Today I am going to pretend to be an ancient Persian in the historic war of Salamis. So here it is!

We have just gotten a message for war from the Athenians. They want to battle with us in a strait called Salamis. We have refused. Why? Because we have 800 ships and we won’t be able to fit all our ships. While the Athenians have 200. That’s why they think that they are so clever, but we are not dumb. We know what they are planning, thanks to their traitor. He has told us how we can pass them and defeat them. Now we will accept the battle invitation.

We have prepared our ships for battle. We have food, clothing, water, and gear. Those Athenians are going to regret battling with us. We are way stronger.

We are now on our way to battle. Oh, how the smell of defeat is in the air. We are almost there. I smell their fear. I can imagine our weapons struck through their hearts. The sharp tip of our bows, could even go through the front and back of our enemies. We have finally arrived.

Uh – oh. We’re in trouble. The traitor has lied. The Athenians are in a different formation! We are not going to fit! BOOM! AHHH!!! We’ve just lost our supply ships! RAWR!!!! everyone yells. Oh NO!!  I’ve been hit! I’ve been hit along with thousands of others! HELP!!! It REALLY hurts!!!! (sigh)Good bye world.

Spartan Life:For Women

Filed under: Uncategorized — Natalie at 3:11 pm on Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Hi Bloggers of the world! Today’s history assignment is to pretend to be in ancient Sparta and write a letter home to our mom and dad. So here it is.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I wanted to tell you how proud I am to be a Spartan woman. I believe training in sports is fair instead of being in the military is fair. One, because some women are afraid to lose / risk their lives. And two, sports are fun to play and be active. I enjoy the sports a lot. We can also buy property, like the men. I believe that is truly fair.

Compared to the horrible city-state, Athens, Spata is a wonderful place to live in because we make good choices, such as having a government with certain people. Unlike the Athenians, they make horrible choices, like letting people speak their mind, and taking those terrible suggestions. They spend more time on art and less time preparing in the military, which makes them weak. . The future is bright for Sparta because we always win a fight. We will win all of Athens. LONG LIVE THE SPARTANS AND OUR LEGENDS!!!!

Love Your Daughter,

Marianne.

P.S. I have now become captain of the Soccer, Flying Disc, and Volley Ball team.

My Future Facebook!!!!

One assignment I had to do this week was to create a fake Facebook , using Google Documents, for myself 10 years from now.  Once I was done, I had to post it on my blog. All this is fake information. None of this is real. It’s all made up. I asked my friends for permission to use their first names. They all approved. Just a quick note, they all have blogs, too.

I have plans for myself in the next 10 years. I plan to go to college for at least 10 years. I also plan on getting married, but as you can see in my fake Facebook, or maybe not clearly, I am still in a relationship. I have just graduated college and now moving to a new one.

When I’m 65

Hey bloggers of the world! In today’s post, I will be pretending that I am 65 and giving advice to my middle school self. In my 65 years of life, I will be a successful person. I will live in a house in Los Angeles, California. I have won 25 Oscars in my singing career. I am now retired from my job at Disney Land , singing and acting. My 2 kids are now both working at the Apple Company.  My husband has passed away. I attended  Stanford University for 4 years. Then I went to college at Stanford again for another 4 years. After my eight years at Stanford, I went to CSUMB (California State University of Monterey Bay). Now I am alone in my new 2 story house in LA, California.

When I was in middle school, I had good grades. I always had my best friends when I needed them. Things I would not have changed were my classes, my friends, grades (unless they were bad). One thing I would change is my “if it happened” bad grades. I know I can do better than that. Some advice I would give myself is when I have something due, I work on it until I’m done and turn it on either earlier, or on the due date. Something else is if something or someone was bothering me, I should tell a teacher.  Pretend your 65. What do you think your future will be like?

Confucius

Filed under: History,Uncategorized — Natalie at 1:50 am on Wednesday, February 29, 2012

Hey bloggers of the world! Today I have a history post on Confucius. Confucius was a great thinker. He lived around 551 – 479 B.C. Historians believe he was born in a small state called Lu. When he was just a small three – year old, his father died. But in another record, it states he was an orphan. Some people ask how he was important in ancient China. Well. he was important because when the Zhou (Joh) Dynasty fell, he thought of positive ideas. He wanted peace through a sense of duty, and other stuff similar to that. He travelled China sharing his ideas and urging the government to adapt to his ideas.

I think it would be a good idea to follow his ideas today. Why? Because he wanted peace. Look at the world today. There is no peace. Fights, deaths, killings, and other stuff like that are happening. It’s on the news, the radio, everywhere you look, there’s always something bad. When he died, his sayings where all over China. One of his sayings was, ” ‘ There are those who act without knowing; I will have none of this. To hear a lot, choose the good, and follow it, to see and learn to recognize it: this is the next to knowledge. ‘ ” Another one is,” ‘ Before you embark on a journey to revenge, dig two graves. ‘ ” Now, some people might not know what that means, but leave a comment on what you think it means. If we follow his ideas, I think the world would be a great place to live in. Everything would be sooo much better. Well, that’s a wrap! Adios my blogging amigos!

Mary Celeste

May, 1861

Sailing across a sea

as calm as the captain

Boom, Crash, Crackle

What’s that Captain?

Is it a storm?

Boom

“Abandon ship!

Set down the life boats!”

Captain Benjamin S. Briggs yells

Angry blue sea

begins to roughen

and many waves approach

What is going on?

Captain’s wife and baby

cry in panic

“Aboard the boats, Sarah.

Don’t forget Sophia!”

Rowing out into the aqua sea.

Worrying about what will happen.

Bang!”

She was hit by lightning.

Crew and passengers were never seen,

or heard from again.

December 4,1872,

It’s finally discovered.
